Goodall Hospital Board of Trustees Appoints New President/CEO
The Goodall Hospital Board of Trustees has announced the appointment of internal hospital executive Patricia “Patsy” Aprile as the new President and CEO, effective June 1, 2011.
Board chairman Mark Mickeriz, President of Sanford Institution for Savings, made the announcement to hospital management on Monday, noting Patsy’s demonstrated leadership at Goodall during the past six years.
“Patsy has been instrumental in Goodall Hospital’s growth and development. There is virtually no service here that hasn’t benefited from her oversight and influence. She balances collaboration with a steady determination that results in consistent improvement,” Mickeriz said.
Aprile joined the Goodall staff as vice president of operations in May, 2005, having previously served as an executive director at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH. She was recruited to Goodall for her broad range of management experiences as well as her focus on quality improvement.
As the vice president of operations, Aprile oversees the day to day operation of the hospital and all its entities. She was directly responsible for the development of the hospital campus in Sanford and its expansion into Waterboro and Kennebunk. Under her direction, Goodall Hospital has completed four major building projects on time and on budget, attained accreditation with high scores and built a culture of discipline and regulatory compliance.
“She has earned the trust and respect of physicians and employees at all levels,” Mickeriz said. “After considerable discussion about the future leadership needs of Goodall Hospital, the search committee quickly agreed that Patsy is the ideal candidate.” The search committee, chaired by Mickeriz, also included past board chairs Merilee Perkins and Ted Hissong, chair of the board’s Patient Care Committee Sue Roberts, and incoming chair and past president of the Medical Staff William Frank, MD. The committee expanded its interviewing process to include the entire board as well as representation from the medical staff which unanimously selected Aprile.
“I am honored to accept this position,” Aprile stated. “I’m humbled to have the trust of the board, our medical staff and our employees. These are interesting times in health care and I’m so excited about our possibilities.”
Aprile said her primary focus will be to continue discussions with MaineHealth looking for collaborative ways of serving the residents of York County. A theme of her administration will be patient satisfaction and continuing to improve patient processes.
“Patsy will provide an environment of stability during this time of healthcare reform,” said Kathleen Morris, MD, President of Goodall Hospital’s medical staff. “She has the focus, the experience and the knowledge to lead us well. And she works extremely well with the medical staff. She has a great skill for keeping you engaged, holding you accountable and making you feel valued. ”
In addition to her role at Catholic Medical Center, Aprile was director of New Hampshire Medical Labs, a joint venture between CMC and Elliot Hospital that provided more than one million tests per year. She also served as lab director at Elliot Hospital.
She has an undergraduate degree from Colby Sawyer College in New London, NH, and a Master’s in Business Administration from Southern New Hampshire University. She attained her Fellowship from the American College of Healthcare Executives in 2006, and presently serves on the board of the Northern New England Association of Healthcare Executives.
She is active in the Sanford Springvale Rotary Club and also with the Chamber of Commerce and the United Way of York County.
She and her husband Bob live in York, ME, and have two grown sons.
Aprile will replace CEO Darlene Stromstad who has accepted the CEO position of Waterbury Hospital in Waterbury, CT.
