Goodall Hospital C.A.R.E. Program Gets Boost From Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation
Grant Supporting New “Collaboration Allows Real Empowerment Program” for Expectant Mothers
Sanford, ME: (January 7, 2013) Goodall Hospital is pleased to introduce the C.A.R.E. (Collaboration Allows Real Empowerment) program at the Center for Women’s Health in Sanford, thanks to funding from the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation.
The goal of the Goodall C.A.R.E. program is to help expectant mothers take control of their health and the health of their growing baby. The program examines the barriers women face, including symptoms of depression, which can prevent them from engaging in sustained prenatal care, nutritional counseling, and mental health counseling.
The patient is the center of the C.A.R.E. team in which their healthcare providers and the C.A.R.E. Coordinator assess the patient’s non-medical determinants of health and connect them and their partners with resources that may be helpful during their pregnancy and as they prepare to become a parent.
“We are very excited about the C.A.R.E. Program and look forward to helping connect more of our patients with the resources needed to ensure that they and their baby both have a bright future.” said Deanna Mullins, LMSW, Director of the C.A.R.E. Program atGoodallHospital. “This Program would not be possible without the generous support of the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation.”
According to Dan Corcoran, president and general manager, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Maine, the new program will meet a critical need in the community. “We strongly feel that this program will have a major positive impact upon new moms and their babies,” he said. “And we’re thrilled to be able to support the important work Goodall Hospital is doing.”
